What makes Educators stay so long at TG's Child Care?

Updated: 22 hours ago

✦ Staying for more than a few years in a job is becoming a rarity, and TG's Child Care stands out in having Educators who have passed their ten-year milestone at TG's!

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics in a report released on 30th June 2023, there were 13.8 million people employed in February 2023. Over half (56%) had been employed in their current job for less than 5 years. About 1 in 5 (21%) had been in their job for less than 1 year.

Statistics from the Economic News Release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics say the breakdown of the median tenure for workers age 25 to 34 is 3.2 years. The median tenure for employees age 65 and over is 10.3 years. Workers in management, professional, and related occupations had the highest median tenure (5.5 years). Workers in service occupations had the lowest median tenure (3.2 years).

That means a switch every 3- 5 years is about average now. So why do most Educators in TG’s Child Care stay so long at a job?

We celebrate the 10-year milestone of Meg, Mel, Jacqui, Faye, Kiara, Kim and Narelle! They share about the magic TG's has that makes them stay on year after year!

TG's Sense of Belonging is what keeps Meg Barnden-Hyde committed to TG's

Meg Barnden-Hyde celebrates a whopping 15 years with TG's, and our Brilliant readers will remember from previous articles that she actually started as a parent at TG's, so her trust in TG's extends even beyond her professional career there! Our readers will also recall she won Outstanding Business Leader Award at New England North West Business Awards in 2022 and the Educational Leader Excellence Award at Australian Childcare Alliance (ACA) Excellence in Early Childhood Education Awards in 2023.

TG's Educators shine at awards!

What made me decide to stay through the years, however, was the warmth and sense of belonging that I experienced from the moment I knocked on Gayle and Trevor’s door. Their dedication to creating a nurturing environment where families feel like an integral part of the community resonated with me deeply. It wasn’t just about childcare; it was about building meaningful connections and supporting one another in the journey of supporting happy, healthy children.

In essence, by prioritising joy, fostering commitment to learning and embracing the journey of a rewarding career, new Educators can lay the foundation of growth and fulfillment, and stay in the field of education and care. Read Meg's full interview here.

"As our Manager, Meg is now overseeing 1 Area Manager, 6 Centre Managers, 160 Early Childhood Educators and staff, supporting over 500 children each week, 450 families and the various communities in which they belong. As we have learned working together over the years, when we get the environment right and the culture right, that’s when the MAGIC happens. Congratulations Meg, on achieving this wonderful milestone of your 15 years Anniversary working with us at TG’s Child Care. You truly are an Early Childhood Leadership SUPERSTAR!!!" - Gayle Kee, Owner of TG's Child Care

Mel always ready to lend a helping hand!

Never have I worked anywhere where I am thanked daily just for doing my job. This was not something I had experienced in my previous places of employment! Nor have I worked somewhere where it is okay to call in sick when you have to care for your children. TG's Family First attitude enabled me to be there for my family and help them to be the successful young adults that they have become.

It's not easy for new Educators just starting out in this industry to know where to start. TG's Family First mindset really supports Educators to manage work life balance. You just feel so taken care of here. They also really value their Educators by offering above award wage pay. Read Mel's full interview here.

It's all about going above and beyond, not just for the children and families, but for the Educators as well. That is what keeps TG's flying high and trusted all these decades.

TG's Child Care is committed to providing the best possible care and education for children, and they have been actively achieving and exceeding Element 7.1.2 under the National Quality Standard (NQS).

Element 7.1.2 Management Systems emphasises the importance of effective leadership and management systems within our childcare service. TG's does this by:

  • Well-Documented Policies and Procedures - policies and procedures are documented to ensure clarity and consistency in daily operations.

  • Maintained Records - TG's places a high priority on maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, which serve as a crucial tool in decision-making processes.

  • Shared Values and Clear Direction - Together, TG's has established shared values and a clear direction that guide their actions and decisions, fostering a sense of unity and purpose within the team.

  • Reflective Practices - TG's believes in the power of reflection. Through ongoing reflection and evaluation, they continuously assess and refine their approach to better meet the needs of children and families.

  • Engagement with Families - Their input is invaluable to TG's! TG's actively engages with families in the planning and review process, creating opportunities for collaboration and continuous improvement.

The TG's team came together for a planned professional session to allow educators to explore the cycle of planning and how they can seamlessly incorporate and document each child’s learning journey at TG’s. Using the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standard (NQS) as their guiding curriculum platforms, TG's Educators are embarking on a journey to understand the whole child better and how to document this learning in their portfolios. It's all about nurturing holistic development, celebrating individual strengths, and fostering a love for lifelong learning!

TG's continues to expand

TG's has always been welcome in every community they go to, and with Playing is Learning for Life growing so beautifully over the years, there are plans in the pipeline for more TG's Child Care campuses to grow in more communities. Watch this space for more updates!
