Rowing the Boat Together: How TG's Child Care Teamwork Boosts Success

Updated: Jun 13

✦ At TG's Child Care, the Educators are rowing the boat together and it is what helps them grow to their 7th campus in Australia!

At TG's Child Care, teamwork is the foundation of their success. An often-heard saying at TG's is "We're paddling the canoe together!".

Those who have experience in team boat racing will know the importance of teamwork, of working in perfect alignment. It is this incredible synchronicity that allows a boat to gain incredible speed. One row out of rhythm and the boat's course goes off and slows down.

TG's Educators are paddling in unison, steering TG's towards a brighter future for the children they are nurturing across their communities. In fact, TG's is at this very moment getting ready for the magical transformation of their second Armidale campus in Kirkwood Street, making the total of TG's campuses across Australia to seven!

We can take a leaf out of TG's book, or boat, and use it as an inspiring example for other businesses.

Moving forward with strength and purpose

When everyone at TG's Child Care rows together, they move forward with strength and purpose. Their dedicated team collaborates seamlessly, ensuring that each child receives the best care and learning. TG's Educators are the magic that create the kind, loving, fun environment in TG's playspaces. This harmonious effort creates a positive, loving and fun environment where children thrive and love going to every day.

Putting it in practice

TG's mantra of paddling the canoe together is more than just a metaphor; it's a practice embedded in their daily operations. They hold regular team meetings to share ideas, address challenges, and celebrate achievements. This open communication fosters a sense of belonging and mutual respect among staff, enhancing their collective motivation and commitment. Educators know they have each other's backs. When an Educator needs time off to study for their diploma or for family, TG's is there to give them the support they need. Family First is a philosophy that keeps TG's Educators staying at TG's for more than a decade.

Sharing each Educator's unique gifts

One of the keys to their success has been recognising and valuing each team member's unique gifts and contributions. Just as each rower in a boat has a vital role, every Educator at TG's Child Care brings essential skills, perspectives, knowledge and experience. By leveraging these strengths, TG's ensures that their canoe glides smoothly, even when navigating the most challenging waters. Each Educator's strengths and potential are seen and given the chance to grow. Meg Barnden-Hyde was a parent at TG's who joined TG's as an Educator and today she is TG's NSW State Manager who is well-loved and respected! She won the Educational Leader Excellence Award at the Australian Childcare Alliance (ACA) Excellence in Early Childhood Education Awards in 2023.

Teamwork that extends to the community

TG's collaborative spirit extends beyond TG's playspaces to involve families and the broader community. They actively seek feedback and involvement from families, creating a supportive network that enriches their educational programs. This inclusive approach not only strengthens relationships but also boosts their reputation as a trusted and community-focused stewardship of the children's future. TG's is often seen participating at local festivals, and these activities are blended into their curriculum as part of the children's learning journeys.

National Quality Standard supports TG's teamwork

The National Quality Standard (NQS) 4.1.1 - Organisation of Educator influences how TG's organises their teamwork. This section focuses on having a skilled and engaged team of Educators who work collaboratively to create a positive learning environment for the children.

TG's teamwork is structured to:

1. Promote Collaboration: TG's Educators work together as a team, sharing ideas, resources, and best practices to enhance the learning experiences of the children.

2. Professional Development: TG's invests in continuous professional development for the Educators, ensuring they stay updated with the latest teaching techniques and child development practices.

3. Supportive Environment: TG's fosters a supportive environment where Educators feel valued, motivated, and empowered to deliver high-quality care and education.

Based on the NQS, TG's has created a well-organised team of Educators as the foundation of a successful early learning programme. Each child's learning journey and wellbeing are their top priorities and their Educators play a vital role in creating TG's magic in achieving these goals.

Takeaway for businesses

For other businesses looking to emulate TG's success, the lesson is clear: teamwork is paramount. By fostering a culture of collaboration, open communication, and mutual respect, you can propel your organisation towards greater achievements. Whether you're in early childhood education or any other industry, rowing the boat together is the key to navigating the path to success.

TG's journey continues, driven by the collective energy and dedication of their Educators. As they paddle together, they remain committed to providing the highest quality care and education for the children entrusted to them, setting a powerful example for businesses everywhere. ❋
