A Community Comes Together in Celebration
Prince would have belted out Purple Rain if he had been there on 11th March for the 37th Annual Lasiandra Festival to celebrate Purple People Day in Wauchope.
Yes it was a rainy day, but it hardly dampened any festive spirits and it was a day for the community and businesses to come together to share a day of joy in the spirit of purple!

The Lasiandra Festival traditionally takes place from the second Saturday in March. That is when the Lasiandra flowers are bursting into life and you can see their beautiful blooms across the town.
The Lasiandra Festival celebrates flowers, nature and growth. This is the time when people get busy with plantings around town. It is, very simply, a beautiful celebration of life!
The Wauchope Lasiandra Festival aims to promote the town and the Lasiandra as Wauchope´s floral emblem. This is a time to encourage the plantings and maintenance of Lasiandras in the community. With everyone in the community coming together to celebrate, it is a way to support the various groups, organisations and businesses in the community.
The Lasiandra Festival was actually the brain child of three Wauchope men - Gordon Rogers, Jack Dwyer and Noel Dunn. Thanks to them and their envisioning's, we now have an annual floral festival to promote the Wauchope area and ensure plantings take place every year.
The community in Wauchope always looks forward to this festival as there is so much happening to bring people together. There is the Purple People Shopping and Market Day, and it is a time to see people get really creative dressing up in purple!
So, have you planted any Lasiandras in your garden this year?
