For William Jollymore (and he is like his namesake, one gets irresistibly drawn into a happy chat with him), having a business in candles started as a hobby which grew exponentially into a business.
"...it didn't even fit in the house anymore. So we had to open up shop because we were tripping over boxes. We wanted our house back!"
With three and a half years into his business, William is proud to have his online business Lunico Candle Co. and a brick and mortar shop at 10/1A Blackbutt Road, Port Macquarie.
Chief Illumination Officer - William Jollymore
Yes, you read it right. That's William's official job title! This means he's in charge of all the candles, which are 100% soy wax with non-toxic fragrances. He makes them, does the quality checks and ensures they are good to go.
Scentertainment Director and Brand Glow Getter - Jacob Jollymore
At Lunico Candle Co., they are famous for 'scentertainment'! They like to have fun with what they do to make people feel comfortable having a good time. Jacob is the business's marketing and social media guru. (Did you know Jacob also does personal tarot and oracle card readings?)
The marvellous world of scents
As you sit surrounded by all the amazing candles, it's like being transported into another place. Scents have a powerful way of taking us on a trip down memory lane to a summer beach holiday or a visit to grandma's.
Each scent has been carefully considered and crafted. William explains how they think about seasons to decide if they want a summery scent or a wintry fragrance. Special occasions are another theme they use to help them blend their scents. They do about six to eight different variations of a particular recipe until they find the right balance and proportions they like.
In fact, William has mixed so many combinations that they now have over 100 different products on their catalogue. Other than candles, Lunico Candle Co. also has reed diffusers, wax melts and room sprays.
Long lasting flame
Lunico Candle Co. candles start from 275g for $35 and the bigger ones are $45. These candles can keep going for 55 to 60 hours, so you get a lot out of each one.
Make your own candles
One of the main reasons for having a physical shop was to have the space to invite the community to get together to have a good time, laugh, bond and connect.
Lunico Candle Co. organises candle making workshops which is a beautiful opportunity for people to simply come, even by themselves, and people always leave with new friends at these workshops. People come and sit at a big table together to learn the incredible art of making candles, enjoy the scents and have a great time!
Their next workshop is on Sunday 15th September and 22nd September. Each workshop is $75 per person which includes catering. It is a delightful touch that William and Jacob want to bring to their workshops with finger food nibbles, and people can bring their own beverages. At the end of the workshop, everyone brings home their very own unique candle complete with a custom label that is prepared on site. What's not to love? ❋
