✦ Independent Councillor Nik Lipovac has announced he will contest the position of Mayor at the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Local Government Election on September 14. He will also lead a team of prominent local identities who are committed to our community.
The current Mayor of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Peta Pinson will be retiring after seven years as Mayor, and the first female and longest services mayor of the region.
Nik's team includes respected long-term resident Jon Bailey, passionate community advocate Ellen
Crepaz and highly regarded small business operator Luke Garel.
Team Lipovac's Vision
Team Lipovac is committed to maintaining, upgrading, and providing more of Council’s core responsibilities. Roads and Footpaths. Water, Sewerage and Waste Services. Recreational and
Sporting Facilities. They will also focus on being forward thinking and financially responsible while making progress on the region's infrastructure, housing, and transport requirements.

Mayoral Candidate Nik Lipovac is determined to increase the level of Communication,
Transparency, Accountability, and Integrity. "It's what residents want and what they deserve."
"I have the greatest respect for the work of council staff and community input, and this should always form the basis of the decision-making process. There's no room for personal agendas and pre-conceived ideas. In saying that I have selected a team of independent thinkers who are not required to tow the party line when considering council matters.
I expect the new Council, made up of representatives from different tickets, to work together and form our own team of 9 independent thinkers for the benefit of the community. I certainly don't expect we'll agree on everything. It's OK to have a different opinion, in fact it's encouraged, so long as we can remain respectful. In my opinion that's how things should operate at Local Government level."
"During this term of Council I have stood up and spoken on many issues but in particular highlighting our need for a new Housing Strategy and doing what we can for the Homeless, increasing the number of Local Businesses successfully vying for Council Tenders, supporting Tourism, improving sporting facilities, better roads, safer beaches and the list goes on."
"Let me also add if elected as Mayor the community will benefit from my positive relationship with
State and Federal Members and our Local Chambers in the Camden Haven, Wauchope and
Port Macquarie. We must work together for the benefit of our region."
Team Lipovac will also encourage the community to vote "No" to the referendum question of
reducing councillor numbers.
Meet the members of Team Lipovac.
NIK LIPOVAC
I’ve enjoyed almost 30 years working in the media and that includes 18 of my 21 years in the Hastings Region. Firstly, with 2MC-FM (now Triple M) and more recently with Radio 531 as an Announcer, in Promotions and now as an Account Executive under the pseudonyms of “Nik James” or “Super Radio Niko.”
I’m the Chair of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Sporting Fund Committee providing financial support to local junior athletes and was heavily involved in Hastings Cricket in various roles including Association President, Club Secretary, Junior Representative Team Coach and Manager.
The Hastings Community will benefit from my business and community organisation connections, my on-going involvement in local events and activities, and my individual and team success in business and in sport. Everything I’ve done in my career has involved representing locals and putting their needs first. I’m committed to our community.
JON BAILEY
Happily married to a local girl for 37 years with two wonderful now adult children who were born and raised in the Hastings. I've participated in many local sports as a player, coach and referee and made many lifelong friends along the way. With some spare hours I enjoy my time volunteering with local charity Make A Difference.
As a News cameraman it has given me the opportunity to be in touch with a broad cross section of
our community and to really get a strong perspective on how our region is growing and evolving.
Our region is one of the fastest growing on the coast, we can’t hold back the tide of population growth, but we can certainly get the infrastructure right and strategically plan for the future. Now is not the time to be pushing away business or dividing our community and that's what I've witnessed parts of this current sitting council do.
In my opinion we need strong and cohesive leadership and a Mayor that's open to robust common sense debate in the chamber that benefits our entire community, and that's what has given me the motivation to be on this team.
ELLEN CREPAZ
I am the founder of Mid North Coast EaTs and the driving force behind the Port Macquarie EaTs Facebook Group, which united our community during the pandemic. I have been recognised as one of the region’s most influential individuals by the Daily Telegraph and a finalist for PMHC Citizen of the Year 2021.
I am passionate about bringing the community together with my latest and last project EaTs Soul Savour Festival coming up on 31 August. I will be focusing on advocating for community engagement, homelessness, and mental health services along with other great initiatives to empower our residents.
I bring over 13 years of experience in government initiatives and stakeholder engagement. I excel in project management, strategic program coordination, and process optimisation, and I am deeply committed to fostering positive change across various organisations.
I will advocate for community engagement, homelessness, and mental health services along with other great initiatives to empower our residents.
LUKE GAREL
I have a longstanding presence as a small business owner in the Port Macquarie-Hastings Region.
I’m dedicated to supporting local businesses, attracting new ventures, and creating job opportunities for the community. Driven to make a positive impact for the local community beyond business, I’m actively involved with numerous community groups, charities, and fundraising events.
I’m also passionate about the positive impact sports involvement and participation can have on a community and I have been a volunteer with many local sporting clubs.
I advocate for the enhancement of the region's sporting infrastructure not only to promote grassroots participation but also to position the area as a hub capable of hosting significant sporting events in the future. ❋
