Celebrate Small Business Month in November with #LoveLocal Festival

✦ The NSW Government is making available grants of up to $5,000 to eligible organisations to host targeted events and activities as part of Small Business Month.

The theme for Small Business Month this year is "Connect for Success". There is an undeniable interdependence we have with one another. No man is an island, and it is through connections that small businesses can be supported, grow and thrive. Small businesses need to connect with experts and peers, whether it is to learn something new, or to share new opportunities with others around us.

"The resilience, entrepreneurship and grit shown by our micro, small and medium sized businesses should be recognised and celebrated. I encourage everyone in our community to continue to support our small businesses and today reflect on the challenges and importance of our small businesses." - Eleni Petinos, Small Business Minister

Small Businesses are Vital

It is often said that small businesses are the backbone of Australia's economy, and it is not some woo woo romanticised idea. It is actually true that collectively, small businesses in Australia hire more people than any other employer type. Did you ever stop to wonder just how many small businesses there are? According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), there are over 2.3 million businesses active in 2019. In the construction sector alone, 97% of all companies had less than 20 employees.

We are proud that Australia has one of the highest rates of entrepreneurial activity in the world, and it's clear that small businesses are the channel through which new ideas are generated and nurtured, and it's making a difference to the economy landscape of the country.
